It was only two years ago that the first commercial Hammerhead 8+ was released from the Hudson Factory as the flagship of the new Shark Series hulls. Prior to this new hull technology and following significant success on the international racing circuit Hudson boats had gained a reputation for having very fast hulls for Elite crews. Despite many high school crews having significant success in the Classic hulls, perception became reality for most that were unfamiliar with the boats or listening to the spin of other boat builders.
Through an ambitious collaboration with a renowned U.S Naval Architect, Britt Chance, the new Hudson SHARK series of shells were developed by employing cutting edge ‘unsteady flow’ computational fluids dynamics (CFD) analyses. The Hammerhead 8+ was specifically designed to provide a more comfortable and stable rowing platform while maintaining outstanding performance characteristics. Over the past year an unprecedented list of High School results across five countries make a strong case that the SHARK hulls are faster and more forgiving relative to the previous Classic hulls.
Whether you have ever rowed a Hudson in past or never had the curiosity to organize a test row; the SHARK is real and a must try for you or your crew this year.
The top five nations at the 2008 Olympic Games based on total medals were Great Britain, Canada, Australia, United States, and New Zealand. These countries also happen to have most of the world’s best high school rowing systems. Over the past two years with the support of local agents Hudson have been able to send multiple container loads of boats into these top rowing nations and have had particular success with Hammerhead 8+ results at the high school and youth levels. In the past twelve months there have been overwhelming success stories from all five countries. Considering the relatively small number of new Hammerhead 8+'s in each of the three countries outside North America the most impressive aspect of these results is the efficiency of Hudson Shark hulls at finding the A final, medal podium and championship trophy.
